N40 Caddis Nymph Fly

$2.50

If the river you fish has a caddis hatch, and you like to nymph, then this is gold. We used to tie a much simpler version of this fly, and we still do, and we always just called it the quick caddis. We used to have our boxes lined with this same pattern but no ice dub and just spikey squirrel around the head and we often fished it as a second fly behind our dry… and still do. However, if you are nymphing we can’t deny that the added ice dub, and gold bead followed by the soft duck neck collar give the N40 caddis extra fly box space among most of us especially in May and June. The chartreuse butt on the back… eh… we wouldn’t say we are confident that really matters but it hasn’t seemed to hurt and the fish eat it, and the market is the market. This is a very productive pattern, one of our oldest patterns, and one that we really don’t change up too much because it has been so productive as is.
