Elk Hair Caddis

Originally created by Al Troth, the Elk Hair Caddis is the most famous caddis dry fly ever designed. For good reason too, the Elk Hair Caddis is extremely effective at mimicking adult caddis and comes in a larger variety of sizes and colors. The larger tan sizes, in a size 12 can even be used as a spruce moth pattern. This pattern is easy to see, and floats well due to the elk hair placed as the wing which is where it gets its name. Many would say that the Elk Hair Caddis is the only caddis dry fly pattern you really need.
