REDFISH CAMP 2025
House of fly is welcoming like-minded anglers to TWO Redfish Camps this year. We've split camp into two groups.
TBD - FALL 2025
Centrally located in South Texas, Rockport has become one of our favorites for stalking coastal reds. It hosts a seemingly endless amount of grass flats and mangroves to pole through and provides close-range shots at redfish that just about any skill level can make. If this is your first trip to the coast, this is a perfect trip to start with. You should have many opportunities to land a fly near fish.
WHAT IS FISH CAMP?
Fish Camp is a straightforward and unassuming fishing-first style of trip, hosted by a handful of us at the House of Fly. Our Fish Camp experience is a little bit different than the traditional hosted/lodge trip. With our Fish Camps, we are inviting you along to what would otherwise be a group of us planning our own trip somewhere. This keeps the trip simple, affordable, and approachable for anyone. To put it simply, it gets you to some fishy destinations at a lower rate. We will still hire the guides, find local accommodations to stay at, cover the meals, and organize the logistics around getting everyone there and having a good time.
TRIP DETAILS
4 Nights ON THE TEXAS COAST
We will be renting vacation rentals on the water in Rockport Texas. The rentals have A/C, Wi-Fi, plenty of beds for everyone, full kitchen, TVs, and multiple bathrooms. However, it is a vacation rental so it’s a different experience than staying in a hotel room. The rentals are within walking distance to the town of Rockport which has coffee shops, restaurants, and a few local bars; and they will allow us a place to hang out, prep for the next day, and share a few laughs.
Rockport is conveniently located about 40 mins from the Corpus Christi airport, but other options for air travel include coming through Houston or San Antonio. It will be easiest to arrive at Corpus Christi airport, as we will be able to coordinate shuttles or a personal pickup from the airport to camp from that location.
FOOD + BEVERAGES
We’ll be doing the cooking and meals at the house for a good part of the trip, but will also make sure we get some time in town to experience the local flavor or Rockport as well. Tacos, BBQ, Seafood, and Cajun Boils are what you can expect…whether you are on this trip, or just frankly ever visit Texas period. We will provide limited cocktails, beer, and other non-alcoholic beverages at camp, along with some basic snacks and other grab-n-go items for when we’re on the boats. Each morning we will have breakfast and coffee ready before fishing. We will pack sack lunches for the boats each evening, so they are ready for the next day. We recommend that if you want something specific, either pack it with you, or request a trip to the store upon arrival. We’ll be close to town, so it isn’t an issue if you forget something, and need things throughout the week.
Three 8-hour Days, Fully Guided
We will be fishing extremely shallow Texas grass flats for redfish. The redfish are generally 5-10 pounds however we specifically chose these dates in November for the chance to target much larger bull reds. The Texas flats are known for wind, and you can pretty much guarantee 10-15 mph winds at least. We recommend bringing 8-9 weight rods, with quick shooting weight forward lines that you can take 20-30 ft shots with one or less false casts. There are also opportunities to fish for black drum, sea trout, jack crevalle, sheepshead, flounder and a few other species that can show up on the flats. We will provide a detailed gear list prior to the trip, and will assist with recommendations on anything you may need.
We are partnered with Fly Fish Rockport and their guiding staff. We will be fishing out of poling skiffs with 2 anglers in each boat, full 8 hour days weather permitting. Equipment, beverages, flies, tippet are provided if needed. Gratuities not included.
