Our Great Falls, Montana fly shop was created with the Missouri river and its tributaries in mind.

Fly fishing on the Missouri river and its tributaries is arguably the best in the lower 48 with one of the highest concentration of rainbows and brown trout per mile in the US. The Missouri river from Holter Dam down to Craig, Montana and then on to Cascade, Montana also has one of the largest fish size averages among blue ribbon trout streams, this varies from year to year but is in the 17-18 inch range.

The Great Falls fly shop also has a number of other great fly fishing opportunities on the local tributaries, surrounding reservoirs, and high mountain streams in the Highwoods, Rocky Mountain Front, Little Belt Mountains, and of course the Big Belt Mountains. A vast knowledge of insect life is important for fly fishing on the Missouri river and its tributaries as it varies a lot, and receives most all of the different hatches that Montana has to offer. While the Missouri river itself is more known for its prolific mayfly and caddis hatches, as well as some extremely great brown drake hatches, its tributaries which are many times free stone streams that supplement the flows to the Missouri, have some great stonefly, spruce moth, crane fly hatches. Our fly shop staff knows all of this information extremely well and would love to share.

Our Great Falls, Montana fly shop has the largest selection of fly tying supplies in the area, which is required for the spring creek like conditions on the Missouri River. The shop grinds and roasts free local coffee from Morning Light Coffee Roasters, and would love to help you out before you adventures on the Missouri River, Smith River, area reservoirs or high mountain pursuits.

Fly Shop LEAD, JOSIAH LEMARR

We first met Josiah Lamar when he joined our Fly Shop Team in Great Falls, MT back in 2021. He’s known for catching up-to-scratch brown trout out of the small tributary streams in Central Montana. Josiah left us for a short while and went down south to Alabama chasing bass and sasquatch, but eventually came back to Montana to fish with the gang and lead the West Great Falls House of Fly location.
