The Beck’s Fleeing Crab is a staple permit pattern that should be in everyone’s saltwater arsenal. Cathy Beck is a well-known fly tier of proven patterns, and the Fleeing Crab is no exception. We personally haven’t met a permit that wouldn’t eat this fly when presented accordingly. Lead them closely, stay calm and collected, let them see it, strip slowly as to imitate a crab, relax and let the fly pattern do the rest. If you do these things while a permit is in pursuit, the eat is almost certain to follow.
