Off the vise of Darren Wood, Angler at House of Fly, the American Small Batch Mutant Mo Clouser is a variation of the Bob Clouser Minnow that uses a blend of natural and synthetic fibers. Fox fur sheds water naturally, while ice dub and flashabou lateral scale provides the right amount of flash and profile to sell it as a distressed baitfish swimming for its life. With each strip, the fox fur slims down due to water tension. With each pause, the brass eyes send the fly into a dive while the hydrophobic fox fur flairs out, displaying a unique show of streamer action for predatory trout. Best retrieved quickly with sporadic pauses, this streamer will fool fish straight into a hookset.
Known and fished worldwide, The Clouser Minnow may be the most proven pattern in fly fishing. In 1985, Bob Clouser tied and named the Clouser Minnow. Throughout the years it has been tied an astronomical number of ways in different colors, sizes and with different materials. No matter the fishery, the Clouser Minnow is one fly that rules them all.
