This fly was designed by Dave Student for Tarpon. Student worked for Umpqua Feather Merchants
and understands fly design about as well as anyone. The Megalopsicle is a great fly for shallow
water or mangrove tarpon or snook situations.
The fly has beadchain eyes for straight tracking but a deer hair head
and back to elevate it slightly above weed lines and grabby mangrove
roots. Among tarpon anglers, this fly
has a cult following, and many consider it to be a top 10 tarpon fly design of
all time.
